About Corbi Law

A Specialist in the Art of Sophisticated Legal Solutions for Distressed Investing and Corporate Restructuring

Richard J. Corbi brings almost 20 years of experience in restructuring matters, distressed investing, business litigation, and bankruptcy. His tenure at renowned New York law firms like Proskauer Rose LLP and Lowenstein Sandler LLP, complemented by his clerkships in the District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York, have equipped him with great depth and breadth of experience. This experience is pivotal in crafting strategies that are tailored to the business and financial objectives of each client.

At the core of Richard’s practice is an unwavering commitment to delivering expert advice and unparalleled client service coupled with efficiencies that save clients time and money, allowing them to allocate those vital resources to the work of building, growing, and/or selling their business. He specializes in navigating the labyrinth of corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, and insolvency proceedings, managing domestic and cross-border insolvencies.

Richard represents a diverse group of clients including distressed companies, official creditors’ committees, and ad hoc creditor groups in a variety of insolvency scenarios across industries including but not limited to printing, sports & entertainment, food and beverage, retail, chemical, healthcare, telecommunications, shipping, oil & gas, and the automotive sector.

On top of this work, he is a trusted advisor to hedge funds, private equity firms, and lenders, excelling in structuring and negotiating critical financial arrangements. His experience handling Chapter 11 debtor-in-possession loans, rights offerings, company acquisitions and sales, and the purchase and sale of investments positions his clients for immediate and continued success by finding forward-thinking solutions.

Richard’s role as a law clerk in the Title III proceedings of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is particularly noteworthy, providing him with unique insights into municipal and sovereign debt matters. This experience is invaluable for clients navigating similar complexities.

In addition to his substantive experience, Richard leverages an extensive network of legal connections and deep industry relationships. This network can be instrumental in addressing complex issues that often arise, such as pension or tax matters. His approach ensures that clients benefit from sophisticated, high-caliber legal counsel across a broad spectrum of issues, all while prioritizing cost-efficiency.

An advocate for continuous learning and professional development, Richard completed the American Bankruptcy Institute/St. John’s University School of Law Bankruptcy Mediation Training Program in 2018. He is a registered mediator in the Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern District of New York and the District of Delaware, reflecting his commitment to resolution and mediation in complex legal matters.
